The Taiwan Theater Museum was the first government-operated local theater museum in Taiwan. Highlighting local flavor, it is under the Ministry of Culture and is part of the Environmental Protection Agency’s Environmental Education Facilities and Venues.
Opened on 21 April 1990, it features Taiwanese Opera, marionette drama, Beiguan Opera, and Taiwanese Puppet Theater. The richest and most diversified theater museum in Taiwan, it is focused on theater displays, passing on tradition, education, performance, promotion, collecting, research, and publishing. In addition, to disseminate the seeds of theater and help them take root, in 2002, the Taiwan Theater Museum established the Taiwanese Opera Study Workshop of Taiwan Theater Museum. Blending theater performance and volunteer work, they perform at such venues as rest homes, hospitals, and schools to share with more people the beauty and appeal that characterize Taiwan theater.
