We can get a glimpse of common culture by studying what people ate and drank and their tableware. Dishes embody hopes and views of aesthetics, e.g., dishes with a fish and shrimp design represent the wish for an abundant life. This is the only dishware museum in the world and curator Chien Yang-tung placed the focus of the museum on Taiwan, displaying tableware from the Ming and Qing Dynasties to more contemporary times. The museum, however, also shows dishes brought back to Taiwan from abroad as well as unique Yilan bowls. Come visit the Taiwan Bowl & Dish Museum. You’ll discover that dishware can be no less interesting than the food and drink that they hold.
