He may have passed, but his writings live on. After the War in the Pacific, Lee Rong Chun returned home to Dahe, Toucheng. He rejected the traditional yoke of marriage and family, choosing instead to make a living doing short-time jobs his entire life, so he could focus on his writing. Most people, however, don’t remember Lee’s story, so his nephew, Lee Jingming, promoted his work tirelessly. To commemorate this great writer, Toucheng Town Hall converted the old Toucheng Elementary School dormitory first into the Toucheng Township Historical Museum and then into the Lee Rong Chun Literature Museum. If you happen to be in the neighborhood, stop by and check out Lee Rong Chun’s writings and old photographs as you see small-town life through his eyes.
