Established in 1992, the Institute of Yilan County History (IOYCH) was the first county-level museum in Taiwan established to compile local historical annals, collect local historical data over the long term, record local history, and promote awareness of local history.

The IOYCH is not just a history gallery. It is a storehouse of cultural knowledge for Yilan. It serves as a history classroom for students on field trips. It is a space where people and history come together, where visitors of all ages can come see, feel, interact, and dialog with history. It is a place where people can discover their roots and add to their own story.
